FAILTE ISTEACH – Introduction from Frank Gallagher

Welcome to my weblog. On this site, among other things, you can keep up to date with the activities of the Drogheda Socialist Party. On it will reside articles of local interest, and on issues on which we campaign. We would like your help in the ongoing and continuous building process of the Drogheda branch of the Socialist Party . If you can help in any way, please contact us. Thanks to my Balbriggan Socialist Party comrade Garrett Mullan this on-line endeavour is now up and running. It will, I hope, be a permanent “work in progress”, regularly updated and refined.

I dedicate the weblog to the memory of my late parents Kathleen and Eddie Gallagher, “decent and respectable people” and proud supporters and workers within the local labour (in it’s widest sense) movement. They both instilled a no-nonsense sense of right and wrong in myself, sister and brother, long before social workers, support groups or fancy Dan special needs experts were ever even heard tell of. I make no apology for being the proud inheritor of my mother’s “Belfast bluntness”, I find it very useful when dealing with the proliferation of parasites and “beggars on horseback” that the Celtic Tiger gold-rush has inflicted on Irish society generally, and working people specifically.

I’m the Socialist Party’ representative in Drogheda, a life-long trade union member and activist ( I currently hold the position of Secretary of the Drogheda Council of Trade Unions) and I hope you’ll find something of interest here. You may or may not agree with everything on this site but you can rest assured that my views, opinions and beliefs are honest and very sincerely and strongly held.
