frank good work but have just read the local papers and I do not see any thing about your motion asking about the levies that builders were due to pay the council Wsa it answered or fudged by council staff.Lets be hones If i walk into thes hop for acarton of milk i have to apy how wwere those guys allowed to get water and services and not not pay up.

How where council staff allowing this to hapen more important where they willing to do any thing

Hopefully, the DCTU will organise a 24 hour General Strike in Drogheda on November 6th.
As regards, Donnchadha’s Lisbon Treaty escapade, his union put him in the position of having to decide whether he was a real trade unionist or someone who uses the trade union movement for his own political ends. His behaviour on Lisbon confirmed the latter, which is no real surprise given that he is chair of the Labour Party in Louth and that’s what the Labour Party do nowadays. Dick Spring’s leadership began that process

The facts on the “Tom Reilly Affair” show that far from censorship , An open invitation was issued to Tom to address the JBOR school , in the DI on July 29th and his pesponse was that he could not bear to be in the same room as Dr Micheál Ó Siochrú , and would not be attending .
Tom changed his mind on Saturday September 13th and contacted Sean Corcoran . He did however lay down a number of conditions , he would not listen to Ó Siochrú or any of the other speakers as he was not interested in anything they had to say and after speaking he would not answer any questions and would leave .
When some of the invited speakers had difficulty with Tom’s Siochrú onditions , especially after Tom’s comments on them in his ” Life of Reilly ” which were reprted in a number of national papers , Sean was forced to withdraw the invitation but Dr Ó Siochrú made it clear that he would debate the matter with Tom on a different day .
Tom’s conditions was like a player agreeing to play in a match but only to take the penalty kicks and take no other part . or a player playing only if someone else was not playing .
Tom’s late change of mind in agreeing to speak left Sean Corcoran little chance to discuss the matter ith the committee of the ODS or the invited speakers and the withdrawal of the invitation appeared to make Tom the victim , when he in fact was the person not prepared to listen to other peoples views .
Brendan Matthews appears to have unearthed evidence that a number of well off local families were involved in the slave trade , but Tom is not prepared to listen . So come off it this was not censorship .
By the way “ATTENDED THE ODS JBOR LECTURES” should read ” ATTENDED SOME OF THE JBOR Lectures”
Unfortunately I was not there myself as we were returning on one of Slatterys Travel last trips before they joined the many Irish firms going to the wall .

Following the success of the recent Novice and Junior All Ireland Road Bowls finals on the Baltray Road . it might be a good time for Drogheda Borough Council to offer a site for the European Championships.
We have a lovely flat , straight course in the centre of town , almost deserted at weekends , with good viewing facilities for up to 10,000 visitors .
Yes West Street would be ideal

“Gone over to the dark side” – not a chance Comrade. mind you I’ve already become persona non-grata with the car-park coalition (surprise, surprise) for “politely declining” to vote for a material contravention of the Drogheda Development Plan to facilitate a syndicate of property developers and speculators. More about that anon.

Anyway, the Bacon Report. It’s amazing the people that come to you “volunteering” information when you get to be an elected Councillor.
A longstanding local “high-street” businessman, an individual who is very clued-in and well connected politically (FF), indeed a man who has been in and around the local business and commerce “organisations” for donkeys years enlightened me, no end, about the Bacon Report (2000).

Apparently, according to my contact, the Bacon Report was, as they say in literary circles, ghost-written – “by Barratt Holdings and the County Manager”. Acting the proverbial Well Road Gomb – “Surley not”, I replied. Whereupon my businessman conversationalist enlightened me even more, giving me a chronological history lesson on the connection between the local political and business establishment.

Anyway Graroid, you did ask me what happened to the Bacon Report? Well, if my businessman “admirer” is right, we’ll have to ask Barratt Holdings and whoever was the County Manager back at the time I was throwing bags of domestic refuse into Drogheda Corporation bin trucks.

As for Bacon, well I always thought (much to the annoyance of Donnchadha Mac Raghnaill and the local political intelligensia) that he (Bacon) was “a self-serving, cute hooer”. Or as us Well Road folk would say ” he’d never hould a candle to Ken (TK) Whittaker – a rale daycent divil”.

What ever happened to the Bacon Report on Drogheda, launched in 2000.
How much was spent on a report that stated the bleedin obvious.
