I’m very proud and priviliged to have been the subject of local and national political history by becoming the Socialist Party’s first ever elected representative to the Drogheda Borough Council, and the Socialist Party’s first ever elected public representative in provincial Ireland (outside of Dublin and Cork).
From the very outset of our local election campaign in Drogheda, which we began in September 2008, I predicted that we were real and credible contenders “with a real fighting chance” of winning the last (6th) seat in the Drogheda North ward. In the event, we went one better, taking the 5th. seat.
Given our very limited resources, the Drogheda North result was a truly “massive” achievement overseen by our Director of Elections in Drogheda, Helena Byrne and the Socialist Party’s Regional Organiser in the North-East, Michael Murphy.
Our success vindicates the belief among the more politically enlightened segment of the North Drogheda electorate that neither a Fianna Fail led or Fine Gael-Labour local or national administration offer any real prospect of a way out of the current economic morass.
On my own behalf, and on behalf of our members and campaign volunteers, I extend a very genuine and appreciative thank you to all those who supported us at the polls on June 5th last.

I apologise, I too would like to express the opinion.
